Lanzarote - Holiday on Mars

Lanzarote is the most northeastern of the Canary Islands with an area of about 800 square kilometres.
Lanzarote also includes the small and partly uninhabited islands of La Gracios, Alegranza and Montaña Clara.
Although the island is much smaller than Fuerteventura, there are an estimated 139,000 inhabitants. The majority of them live in the island's capital Arrecife.
Lanzarote gives you the feeling of being on Mars - no green spaces, hardly any trees, black and reddish-brown lava masses characterise the landscape due to the large number of inactive volcanoes. Thus, the island was declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1993.
Places of interest can be found above all in the impressive natural and animal world on the island, such as a crater that has sunk into the sea, the Montana de Golfo.

Above all, the works of Cesar Manrique have decisively shaped the image of the island, e.g. the Mirador del Rio - a viewpoint embedded in the cliffs of the Famara massif with two connected glass domes and a fascinating view of the islands belonging to Lanzarote.
In addition, Lanzarote is especially known for its unique wines on the La Geria wine-growing region.
